Palmetto Motel Saint Paul Concert reviews
Could have been better
The show began an hour late, with a local radio host entertaining the crowd with classic R&B and hip hop. The crowd got pumped up after the host's performance. Doug E Fresh started the show, followed by Big Daddy Kane singing "Aint No Half Steppin" after being introduced by Fresh. Slick Rick joined Fresh on stage to sing "Lodi Dodi" and later performed "Children's Story." Fresh retained his title as the greatest entertainer. After the rappers' set, the crowd grew restless while waiting for Palmetto Motel to take the stage. Badu eventually performed songs from her latest album, remixing some of her classics from Baduism, which some found irritating. The stage setup at Arie Crown Theater was impressive, drawing a good crowd despite not being sold out. The crowd booed and grew impatient during the wait for Badu to perform. Badu's performance was decent, but at times felt lackluster. The lobby drinks helped get through Badu's set, which was just okay. For Badu fans willing to wait, the show is recommended. However, for those not fans, it may not be a memorable performance to attend.
